Man Made Perfect.
Adam and Eve were the only people to have experienced life on an earth free from sin and curse, although this period appears to have been brief. The precise length of their existence in this state remains unknown, as the book of Genesis does not provide specific information.
Adam, the first man was made perfect. He was created by God from the ground. “And the LORD God formed man [of] the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” (Genesis 2:7) God declared that his creation, all of it, was very good. “And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, [it was] very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.” (Genesis 1:31) Everything was perfect throughout all of God’s creation. God placed Adam in a particular place called the Garden of Eden. God provided every provision for Adam to live perfectly. This perfect reality lived by a perfect man without sin and death in our minds is incomprehensible, however we know this is true because God’s Word: The Bible informs us. “And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.” (Genesis 2:15)) To “dress” means to work. Adam worked in the Garden of Eden. It was good work, enjoyable, without any inconvenience, with no sweat. To “keep” is to observe or guard. Adam did not have to keep the Garden from anything bad or evil, because there was nothing bad or evil there in existence. It must have been a perfect pleasure for Adam. Imagine living in a world with no sin, no death, no evil with a body that would live forever. That’s the world Adam and Eve were placed in with every single person to ever exist within their loins.
Man was initially given dominion over all the earth and every living creature. “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”
Contrary to the commonly held beliefs by those who believe in evolution rather than the accuracy of the Genesis record and mankind evolving from lower life forms and evolving from intermediary stages from beast to man as depicted by cave men, Adam was extraordinary intelligent. Perhaps more intelligent than any man ever. “And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.” Genesis 2:18-19. Adam was created with the intellectual ability to perform such a task in identifying God’s creatures. God created Adam in His likeness which one similarity being the ability to reason and employ logic. This was not something evolving within him for millions of years, Adam was created with superior intelligence. Adam named the animals after distinct characteristics they revealed. Adam did not have to study or engage in any academic pursuit whatsoever to have the intelligence needed to name the animals. This ability was given Adam by God upon his creation out of the earth.
After creating Eve from Adam, they were wed together by God in establishing the first institution: Marriage. This was a marriage without sin and demonstrated by the fact that although they were naked, they were not ashamed. The Hebrew word translated “ashamed” is בּוּשׁ bûwsh (Strong’s H954) 72 times in the Old Testament and is also translated as “confounded,” 21 times in the Old Testament. Adam and Eve were neither ashamed nor confounded in any manner initially by each other or anything else in this perfect world.
Adam and Eve knew of a world we cannot possibly envision nor are we capable of accurately depicting due to the monumental and systemic impact made on our physical and spiritual being in their disobeying God’s law which renders us incapable of understanding a perfect man and woman in a perfect world. Yet that is how they and this world were initially created. Not only would mankind lose his right of dominion over all the earth as God gave man as demonstrated by the inherent fear that exists in much of the animal world toward man that originally did not exist. Moreover, the entire cosmos becomes accursed.
For an outstanding exposition of Genesis Chapter 2 prior to the fall, Harold Camping wrote a pamphlet entitled the Glorious Garden of Eden that is found on the Resource page of this website and can be found here: tggoe
